After going through several stages, The Ministry of Tourism has finally published the list of destinations that passed the desk evaluation process in the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA) 2019. The selected nominees have gone through various series of assessments conducted internally by The Ministry of Tourism

The registration period in March-May 2019 has successfully received a total of 263 applications from all around the country. In comparison with the previous years’ ISTA, there is a significant increase in the number of applicants. This fact shows a positive trend that many tourist operators, area managers, service providers, and local communities have increased their concern for sustainable tourism management and development.

The high numbers of applicants are most certainly related to the incessant socialization carried out by the Ministry of Tourism in promoting this event. Throughout the registration period, a campaign was conducted regularly in various places starting from Java, Sumatra, to Bali & Nusa Tenggara. The participants come from almost all regions. Then, after going through several stages of internal selection such as desk evaluation and recapitulation, there are 37 tourism destinations from 14 provinces that nominated as the winners on ISTA 2019 before the next stages.

Henceforth, the winners are going to be announced on the awarding night of ISTA 2019 that takes place on September 27, 2019. Aside from getting a total prize of 1 billion, winners of ISTA 2019 will get the chance of joining the competition at the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award (ASTA).
