As the part of the dissemination and promotion of the sustainable tourism concept, the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia will held the ISTAFest 2019, an event for managers of tourism destinations, regional and national governments, national and international partners, local communities, and Indonesian youths who are interested in the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

ISTAFest 2019 is the first Sustainable Tourism festival in Indonesia which consists of three main events, namely ISTAForum, ISTAMart, and the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA).


What is Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards?

Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA) is the annual award for tourism destinations that have successfully implemented the concept of sustainable tourism in Indonesia. There were 96 ISTA participants at ISTA 2017, 176 participants in 2018, and 263 participants in 2019.

ISTA is held to disseminate the concept of sustainable tourism to all Indonesian tourism stakeholders. Sustainable tourism in Indonesia is implemented based on the Regulation of the Minister of Tourism of The Republic of Indonesia Number 14 of 2016 about the "Sustainable Tourism Destination Guidelines”. This Sustainable Tourism Guidelines is adapted from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and has been recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards 2019 (ISTA) Awarding Night will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 (18.00 - 21.00 WIB) at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Ballroom, Pacific Place.

Those who could attend the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA) 2019 Awarding Night are managers of tourism destinations, regional and national governments, national and international partners, local communities, academicians, tourism industry actors, and other stakeholders.


What is ISTAForum?

ISTAForum is a discussion platform for all stakeholders in the Indonesian tourism, central and local governments, national and international partners, private sector, local communities, academicians, students, and media. This forum consists of four sessions with predetermined discussion topics:

  1. An opening session to provide an overview of sustainable tourism development by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and UN representatives.
  2. A panel discussion to discuss partnership opportunities among all stakeholders in the tourism sector to support sustainable tourism in Indonesia.
  3. A community dialogue to discuss the best implementation of sustainable tourism to support national economic growth.
  4. An interactive dialogue about the role of youth for a wonderfully sustainable Indonesia.

ISTAForum will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 (09.00 - 16.30 WIB) at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Ballroom, Pacific Place.

ISTAForum is open to all stakeholders in the tourism sector, including local and central governments, managers of tourism destinations, tourism industry players, NGOs, media, academicians, international partners, and Indonesian youth who are interested and have contributed to the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia.


What is ISTAMart?

ISTAMart is a special exhibition for tourism destinations that have implemented the sustainable tourism concept. The 2019 ISTAMart participants are the winners of the 2017, 2018 Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA) and the Sustainable Tourism Observatories (STOs), which are managed based on the sustainable tourism concept.

There are 12 STOs in Indonesia, and five of them have been recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

ISTAMart aims to showcase, promote and facilitate business-to-business transactions between tourism industry stakeholders, particularly between travel agents and managers of sustainable tourism destinations.

ISTAMart will be held in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Jakarta Ballroom, Pacific Place along with ISTAForum and ISTA Awarding Night 2019. 

Invitees and forum participants can also enjoy a photography exhibition by the winner of the 2019 Indonesian Sustainable Tourism Photo Competition (ISTPC) that describes the spirit of people, planet, and prosperity in Indonesia.
